2012, Volumen 42, Número 1

Planning orthognathic surgery with lateral skull teleradiography and model surgery has certain limitations that can lead to errors that can determine the success of orthodontic-surgical treatment of dentofacial deformities. The incorporation of information technology in medical imaging and virtual models improve the understanding and measurement of the craniofacial anatomy of the patient, allowing surgical planning with great precision and making CAD-CAM splints. The advantages and limitations of 3D technology in orthognathic surgery are exposed as well as the protocol used for planning them.  (Rev Esp Ortod. 2012;42(1):017-021)
